While in Paris, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Lassina Zerbo (Burkina Faso) met with Benjamin Hautecouverture, Senior Research Fellow at the Foundation for Strategic Research on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the FRS premises.
After a long career in the CTBTO Provisional Technical Secretariat as Director of the International Data Centre, Dr. Zerbo took up his duties as Executive Secretary at the head of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission on 1 August 2013. As 2016 marks the twentieth anniversary of the CTBT's opening for signature, Mr. Zerbo reviewed the first two years of his mandate, the fourth nuclear test of the North Korean regime, the progress and challenges of the universalization of the instrument and its place in the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.
In an open exchange with an audience of journalists, experts, students, senior officials and diplomats, Dr. Zerbo stressed the importance of now accompanying the objective of universalizing the Treaty with a roadmap marked by concrete steps.
